Photo Friday!

So... I almost missed Photo Friday! I've decided since he's been such a good sleeper this week, I'd do a montage of Clay in his favorite sleeping positions. Enjoy!

A Sad, Sad Day!

Well, my maternity leave is quickly winding down. I've only got 1 week left after this week and I couldn't be more upset about it! I've been working part-time the last 6 weeks, but Clay has been right here with me. Starting December 1st, Clay has to go to the dreaded daycare! I took him today to turn in some paper work and to go meet the teachers and introduce them to Clay. The teachers are very nice and have been there forever! They already had his crib waiting for him with his name on it and were excited to finally meet him! Ms. Martha had me sit down so she could play with Clay and get him used to the new environment. All 6 infants in his class are boys, with Clay being the youngest. I'm hoping with Clay being the youngest he will learn from all his "older" friends some new tricks. Ms. Martha pulled out one of Clay's favorite toys - a little play gym with toys that hang from it - and he had a good time. After about 20 minutes, it was time to go home for a nap.

Let's just say this whole daycare thing is going to be harder on me than it is on him! I know it's good for him (and me too) to be around other babies and "socialize", but I'm definitely going to miss him!! I just can't believe how quickly my maternity leave has gone! Twelve weeks sounds like a long time - but it flies by fast!

Anyways, on a lighter note... I FINALLY got a good picture of my baby smiling!!! Usually when he's been smiling, I'll pull out the camera and it will be too late, but today... he finally smiled for me while I had the camera in hand! Here is the long-awaited picture!!!

Well, if they ever want to do another one similar to it, Clay needs to be their next spokesperson! Why, you ask?? Let me just tell ya... We basically reenacted that commercial this afternoon! Mine actually included additional bodily fluids... if you know what I mean. I was changing a REALLY dirty diaper not even paying attention to the "little boy part" when I saw "it" out of the corner of my eye. I was holding his feet up in the air with his bottom lifted and was cleaning him when Old Faithful starting to spew! It literally went up and over his head, watering the floor on the other side of his changing table! Clay would be perfect for this commercial!

Well I Was "Weigh" Off!!!

Ha! Do you like my "clever" title??? Anyways, I'm going to go ahead and apologize that I do not have any pictures, but I wanted to go ahead and get this post in. I promise to have plenty of pictures from our trip down to Auburn this weekend. I've got 2 cute Auburn outfits that Clay will be sporting this weekend so you know there will be plenty of photo ops!

Soooooo... I'm sure the burning question that is on everyone's mind... I'm sure you lost sleep over not knowing :)... What did our little monster weigh today??? Well, folks - He weighed in at a nice, healthy, WHOPPING... 14 pounds 14 ounces!!! He is 25 inches long. So he grew 2 inches and 2 pounds 13 ounces since his last appointment 1 month ago. He is in the 95th percentile for height and weight. The doctor said he's basically the size of a 4 month old. Hmmmm... that explains why my child is in 6 month clothes already (and growing out of some 6 month clothes I might add). We've been wondering if it's ok that he's that big, and the doctor said that it is perfectly fine. He's just "healthy".

I, of course, had my list of questions for her... one being the rolling over to sleep on his stomach issue that scares me! She said to take out the bumper pads and let him sleep however he wants for as long as he wants. She was quite amazed that he has already mastered the art of rolling over from back to front and from front to back. She said it's usually a pretty hard feat for a "large" baby to roll over onto his stomach, but he's figured it out. Maybe I can get some extra sleep at night knowing it's ok for him to sleep on his stomach now. I've been watching him on the video monitor like a hawk and running to his room to flip him over when he rolls onto his stomach. Not any more!

He also had to have his immunizations this morning. I asked the doctor her stance on immunizations and the link to autism and she definitely eased our minds. She said that they have taken out the substance they "claim" causes autism... but it was never really proven to cause it. We definitely didn't have plans to NOT immunize him since I know he needs them, but it's good to have piece of mind. Bless his heart, though!! When they stuck him with the needles, his face turned bright red and he screamed for about 5 seconds and then was perfectly fine... no tears!

My little man did so good at his appointment. He even gave the doctor and nurses a couple of his million dollar smiles!!! One of these days I'm going to get one of those smiles on camera!!

I'm a Slacker!

Ok, so I let whole week go by (again!) without a post! I've been very busy... and when I wasn't busy, I was lazy (or shopping) :)!! Anyways, today Clay is 9 weeks old! 9 weeks!!!! I can't believe it! I had a bit of scare this past Saturday... I'm sure to the average person it wouldn't be scary. Everybody always tells you to put your baby on his back to sleep and that's exactly what we do. Saturday night I put him in his crib around 9 and expected him to wake up around 2 in the morning. Well, I woke up around 3:00 and looked at the baby video monitor and he looked like he was smooshed up against the bumper pad in his crib. I, of course, freaked out and ran to his nursery to make sure he was still breathing. Well, he wasn't pushed up against the bumper like I thought, but he was all nice and curled up laying on his.... STOMACH!! Somehow he had figured out how to roll over from his back to his tummy - a feat I was sure he wouldn't master this soon! I first had to check to make sure he was breathing, and he was, and then I rolled him back over to his normal, "approved" sleeping position. I was hoping this was a one time thing - but no such luck. Last night I caught him trying to roll himself over. I guess I'm just going to have to let him sleep on his stomach if he keeps rolling over!

We had another milestone last night... he slept ALL NIGHT! Not just the measley 6 hours that all the books say is "sleeping all night"... but 9 FULL hours of uninterrupted sleep. I put him to bed at 9:00 and he woke up at 6:00 this morning! I hope that's ok to let him sleep that long! It's pointless to try and wake him - he's a hard sleeper!

Well, hopefully he'll stop all this growing up! I want him to stay a baby forever!

And so this isn't a boring post, I do have some pictures! I included an earlier one of him as well as one I took today so you can see how much he's changed! Thursday is his doctor's appt so I promise to post Little Monster's weight! Like I said in an earlier post, I think he's going to be around 14 pounds! We'll see!!

8 Weeks Already!!

Today my sweet baby is 8 weeks old - 8 weeks going on 6 months! Tonight I gave him a bath and put on some PJ's that were size 6 months!! I think the people who make baby clothes need to stop using "months" as size and use weight instead! It's crazy how much he changes in such a short amount of time! He lost all of the hair on top of his head, but it's now growing back - and it looks like it's probably going to grow straight up like mine did when I was a baby. His eyes are turning brown like his mommy's and he's smiling and laughing. Tonight I put him in his bed and he obviously was not ready and actually cried - real tears! He poked out that bottom lip and had the most pitiful cry - I almost cried it was so sad! Next week is his 2 month well baby check and he has to get his immunizations. I'm sure we'll get another pitiful cry out of him for that. I can't wait to see how much he weighs! I'm estimating that he will be at least 14 pounds - but I've been WAY off every time so far.

Monkey Business

This year I was super excited about Halloween because I finally have someone I can dress up!!! I went back and forth on my decision for his Halloween costume, when I happened upon the perfect one! I found the cutest little monkey costume and thought it would look absolutely adorable on Clay! Well... I was right! He looks too cute! Unfortunately he did not share in my enthusiasm and fussed most of the time he was in his costume. I did manage to get some cute pictures of him without crying!

Since he had a costume, we had to take him somewhere to show it off, so we went over to my sister-in-law's house to go trick-or-treating with my nieces. He even had his own treat bucket which Mark and my nieces would carry up to the door for treats (not that he can have any of them - Mark just wanted the candy!).
